I’ve been here before
A happy moment.
Turned to ashes
Of pain and torment.
It is hard to share
With contented friends
While their children play
My injured soul rends.
I’ve been here before
Doubts crossing my mind
An absentee man,
My father defined.
Wedded to his work
Instead of a wife.
I stand forgotten
In his busy life.
I’ve been here before
Her period’s late.
Will feelings of doubt
And sorrow abate?
The suffering of
Prospective mothers.
A pain that’s shared with
Prospective fathers.
