Have you ever had one of those weeks where one task ends up monopolizing your time, and everything else falls by the wayside until that one task is complete? That was me over the last week. My day job, my workout routine, most of my writing was set aside to work on the major project of remodeling my home office.
Not long after I moved into my house, I decided to build a large attached desk with a hutch. Later I built a large bookcase to hold our large collection of books. Unfortunately, my DIY office did not stand the test of time, as our bookcase began falling apart from the weight of all our books, and the desk proved problematic in the era of the COVID home office. I needed a new bookshelf, and dedicated desks for home and work.
I worked for months trying to find the best furniture for my needs, and I finally found it at IKEA. The problem: the nearest stores were three hours away in either North Jersey or Philadelphia. Home delivery was out of the question, as it would cost $200, about half again the cost of the furniture I needed.
After spending Memorial Day weekend demolishing my old desk and the following days moving everything out of the office, I drove down to IKEA in Conshohocken and picked up the desks and bookcases for my new home office. It brought back images of moving to and from my college dormitories having my car filled with boxes with only enough room for me. Over the weekend, I assembled everything, and began putting my office back together. The computers are up and running, but a lot of the non-essentials are still in the next room waiting to be put away.
Now to get back to work…and writing…and exercising.
Catch you on the flipside!
