Today 2017 finally comes to a close. Although I will look back on the highs and lows, relive all the new places I’ve visited, and assess the state of my life, that is not what I am writing about today. Instead I’m going to share the five things that I am looking forward to in 2018.
5. Career opportunities
I will mark my fourth work anniversary in late July, at which time I am eligible to take the exam to be certified as a Professional Engineer in the State of New York. Whether I am able to do so remains to be seen, but this is an opportunity I want to take advantage of.
4. Writing
This year, thanks to this blog, has been my most prolific as a writer. My goals for the coming year include regular updates of the blog, participate in Cherry Quill’s Short Story a month challenge, and come November take another crack at NaNoWriMo.
3. Photography
As I mentioned in a recent post, I will be reacquainting myself with the art of photography. Not only will I try to relearn long dormant skills, but I hope to dust off my old film cameras and do some old school shooting.
2. Ten Years
In November, my wife and I will celebrate our tenth anniversary. I jokingly ponder which of us is more crazy: me for being crazy, or my wife for being with me knowing I am crazy. Either way, we are blessed to have each other. I had hoped that we would be able to take a big vacation to celebrate. Unfortunately, that is not happening, but for a very good reason…
1. Parenthood
In less than a month my wife will give birth to our first child. I am both excited and terrified about being a father. I am intimidated by the task of raising a child in this screwed up world, and I hope we can do alright by him.
I hope you all have something to look forward to in the coming year. As the song goes, “Maybe this year will be better than the last.”
Thank You all for your support in 2017! Happy New Year!!
